PopCap Games has made 50 members of its North American workforce redundant.
The social and mobile gaming arm of Electronic Arts is also now reportedly evaluating the viability of its studio in Dublin, Ireland, as it copes with a rapidly evolving social and mobile gaming market.
PopCap co-founder John Vechey said in a blog post that the change in consumer tastes requires the company to reorganise its business and invest in new types of games on new platforms.
Vechey said the growing popularity of the free-to-play model in social and casual games calls for a new strategy that would involve managing costs and reorganisation.
Based in Seattle, PopCap also has a studio in Shanghai, with a total global workforce of about 600.
