Kansspelautoriteit, the Dutch gaming authority, has imposed a €100,000 fine on online gaming provider Global Stars. The Curaçao-based company has become the first to be fined for offering online gambling to punters in the Netherlands.

Jan Suyver, chairman of the board of directors of the gaming authority, said that companies offering online gambling in the country – which has not yet issued any licences for i-gaming – now knew they would be fined.
The Kansspelautoriteit investigation focused on a period between June 2012 and May 2013, during which Global Stars reportedly targeted Dutch players via three domains - myglobalgames.com, boekjesbingo.nl and myglobalgames.nl.
In a statement, the gaming authority said the fine of €100,000 imposed on Global Stars is “consistent with penalties for violation of the Unfair Commercial Practices Act.”
Suyver added that the penalty was made public to act as a deterrent to other potential illegal online gaming operators. Global Stars has the right to appeal the decision.
