Two-and-a-half years after the Netherlands’ Lower House passed a Remote Gaming Bill, the Dutch Senate has finally passed it yesterday, so the online market in the country is expected to open late next year or early 2021.

According to our colleagues at Gaming in Holland, the Senate also adopted some restrictions on the operators currently dealing with Dutch players. Operators  who in the past deliberately targeted the market in the Netherlands will have a two-year blackout period imposed on their activities.

In addition, the Dutch government will consider bringing back IP and DNS blocking when the new bill has been in force for three years. Finally, it will investigate the possibility of a complete ban on online gambling advertising. There will be a gaming tax of 29 per cent of GGR once the licensed operators - who are permitted to be non-Dutch - have started operating.
