Sports betting tax collection in Colorado has passed the milestone of US$4m in a single month for the first time.

January’s figure of $4.1m represented a 59.6 per cent jump on January 2023’s tax collection from sports wagering, and 12.1 per cent month-on-month increase.

Sports betting revenue in the state rose by 33.7 per cent year-on-year to $53.5m, up from $35.5m a year ago.

Total handle for January reached $596.7m, up nine per cent year-on-year.

The Colorado Division of Gaming also reported that $53.3m of the total revenue came from online wagering, with basketball ($135.3m) the most bet-on sport in January.
