Total gaming revenue in Ontario between April and June was CA$545m, up 3.6 per cent from $526m in the final portion of the financial year.

Igaming Ontario’s Q1 results report also shows total wagers in the Canadian province of $14bn, another slight increase from the $13.9bn posted in Q4.

Casino games including slots, live and computer-based table games and peer-to-peer bingo accounted for almost $11.6bn (83 per cent) of total wagers and $392m (72 per cent) of gaming revenue, iGaming Ontario said.

Meanwhile, betting on sports including esports made up $2bn (14 per cent) of total wagers and $138m (25 per cent) of gaming revenue.

There were 46 operators, showing further expansion of the market from the 44 at the last count between January and March this year.

However, the number of gaming websites declined from 75 to 71. What’s more, the 920,000 active player accounts recorded in Q1 in Ontario was a drop from the just over one million in Q4.

Nevertheless, the average monthly spend of players in the Canadian province increased from $174 to $197.
