Norbert Teufelberger, with whom Ryan has shared the role since March 2011, will become the company’s sole chief executive. The joint stewardship began when bwin Interactive Entertainment merged with PartyGaming to form the world’s largest listed online gaming group.

Simon Duffy, non-executive chairman of bwin, said Ryan had been instrumental in integrating bwin and PartyGaming and had overseen bwin.party’s entry into a number of newly regulated European markets.

“As the merger integration approaches its final stages, and having secured a series of strategic partnerships including MGM, Boyd Gaming, United Auburn and Zynga, Jim now wants to return to Canada with his family,” Duffy added.
