The BetEasy sports betting brand is being resurrected as a result of the merger between Australia’s CrownBet and William Hill Australia.
There will be an automatic switchover for clients of the two Australian sports betting sites to BetEasy, previously owned by the present CEO of CrownBet, Matt Tripp. Following the acquisition of BetEasy by Crown Resorts, it was rebranded as CrownBet.
The Stars Group, majority owners of CrownBet, took an increased stake in the company earlier this year after CrownBet had moved to buy the William Hill Australia business, completed in April.
The plan was to rebrand CrownBet as Sportingbet, but that was challenged in the courts by Paddy Power’s Sportsbet because of the similarity of the name and was awarded a temporary injunction to prevent it happening. That move has now been overtaken by the decision to bring back the BetEasy name.
