The best month ever has been recorded by Illinois sportsbooks, reports PlayIllinois, the research company specialising in the US state’s regulated online gaming and sports betting market.

The industry easily passed the $600m in monthly wagering to take it to new levels and easily passed the previous leader, Pennsylvania.
Illinois is now the third largest gambling market in the US, but warns that as in-person registration requirements are coming in, the honour could be short-lived.
Joe Boozell, analyst for PlayIllinois.com, said: “March Madness helped deliver a huge month for Illinois, but it is the last hurrah for the state’s rapid growth.
"It will still be one of the largest US markets because of its population, but it will be difficult to maintain its current status as number three. No matter how appealing the market, there is no easy way to overcome the inconvenience of in-person registration.”
The $633.6m registerd in March is up 24.3 per cent from February and way above the previous record of $581.6m.
