The UK press continues to forecast that the government will place a ban on the use of betting company logos on professional sports clothing.

It would mean that several English Premiership and virtually all of the Championship clubs would not be able to use betting logos on their playing kit.

The Sunday Times yesterday took over where the Daily Telegraph left off during the week, stating that the change is likely and that not just football, but also snooker, darts, boxing and rugby league would all suffer a sharp decline in the fees from displaying logos. It amounts to £110m for the football clubs alone, said the newspaper.

Government ministers are increasingly concerned about betting addiction led by the online gambling sites and the Gambling Commission has warned leading sports industry figures that a ban is likely.

Gambling will then follow in the footsteps of tobacco as a source of income closed off from sport.
