New Jersey's State Senate has approved measures to transform Atlantic City's casino industry.
Passage of the measures would see a state-controlled casino and entertainment district created, as well as casino industry regulations revised. The new state-run casino and entertainment district could enhance Atlantic City by addressing its safety and cleanliness, which in turn would boost tourism and increase investment.
The first bill, which would create a special Atlantic City Tourism District and expand marketing of the resort, was approved by a vote of 24-9, and the second bill, which would revise casino regulations and shift regulatory authority, was approved 22-13.
Final consideration of the measures will take place next month.
