Although he was sentenced to 54 years in jail, the "Mr Big" of Thai gambling, Po Arnon, aged 30, will only serve 20 years, as Thai law caps jail sentences at that limit.

Better known as Sia Po, Arnon was sentenced in a Thai court for promoting illegal online gambling and for money laundering offences.
Arnon was one of 20 people in his business who were alleged to have been involved in the illegal actions in which 1.7bn baht (€45.6m) went through the business, of which 841.6m baht (€22.6m) was money that was laundered.
Says the Bangkok Post, Arnon was at one time an advisor to the Thai Government on gambling. He had been involved in a study on the possibility of legalising gambling in the country in late 2020.
