Following the successful start-up of sports betting services in Canadian province Ontario, now Alberta is on the way to joining the business.

While other Canadian provinces keep with the government-owned lottery and gaming companies with monopolies, first Ontario and now Alberta are breaking away into the private sector.

In the case of Alberta, the proposal is to use two private operators to offer retail wagering and possibly thereafter mobile betting. The intention is to have the business up and running by the end of this year.

The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission intends to offer betting at major professional sports venues.
