The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has handed Apollo Entertainment a CA$100,000 monetary penalty for failing to meet the Canadian province’s responsible gaming standards.

AGCO Ontario

The AGCO said Apollo failed to conduct interventions with players potentially experiencing gambling-related harms. Its investigation included one player who suffered $2m in losses in less than four months without receiving an intervention.

There was also a failure to implement sufficient self-exclusion, financial and play time-based tools, the regulator said.

Tom Mungham, CEO and Registrar at the AGCO, said: “The AGCO’s goal is to ensure Ontarians can enjoy online gambling on sites that operate fairly, responsibly and provide important player protections.

“All registered operators have an obligation to proactively monitor patron play for signs of high-risk gambling and must take appropriate actions to intervene and reduce the potential for gambling-related harm.”
