The chair of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario’s board of directors, Lalit Aggarwal, has stepped down.

He oversaw the introduction of the Canadian province’s igaming market, which opened in April 2022.
The board’s vice-chair, Heidi Reinhart, has stepped into the role of chair on an interim basis, following her arrival at the board in October 2020.
The AGCO said Aggarwal has departed to spend more time with his family and to focus on other business affairs.
It added: “Mr. Aggarwal became Chair of the AGCO Board in June 2019. Over the last four years, Lalit, a strong and values-based leader, built and led a diverse board of directors for the agency. He instilled enhanced governance practices and structures at the AGCO, including the establishment of robust sub-committees and the AGCO’s subsidiary, iGaming Ontario.
“During his tenure as board chair, Lalit oversaw the development and implementation of an internet gambling conduct and management structure, as well as the regulatory framework to support Canada’s first open and competitive internet gaming market.”
