Boasting stunning mountains and picturesque villages, it’s known as the land of roses.

Bulgaria is the world’s largest producer of rose oil, a key ingredient in perfumes, and it’s the birthplace of the Cyrillic alphabet.

It’s also the birthplace of John Vincent Atanasoff, the inventor credited with inventing the first electronic computer in the 1920s.

But for many sports fans not overly clued-up on a country that’s similar in size to Iceland, it’s football where Bulgaria has made its mark on the world stage.

In 1994, a side containing the great former Barcelona forward Hristo Stoichkov famously knocked out reigning champions Germany in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

And it is quite fitting that in the same year, the company now known as efbet came into being.

Back then, the then land-based company was called Balkanbet and it was in 2011 when the firm which boasts land-based casinos and sports bars changed its name to the modern iteration.
