The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) is opposing federal legalisation of online poker.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, a letter that was dated March 2 and addressed to Democratic and Republican leaders in both the House and Senate, including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, said that “the federal government should respect the Justice Department ruling and would oppose any efforts by Congress to preempt state authority over Internet gaming.”

The letter, which was written by two state lawmakers on behalf of the NCSL, went on to ask Congress to allow state legislatures to decide whether to approve internet gaming initiatives within their boundaries.
