American Gaming Association president and CEO Frank Fahrenkopf is optimistic that a new bill to legalise online poker in the US will be introduced this year.

Speaking at his annual briefing at G2E in Las Vegas on Tuesday, Fahrenkopf was quoted as saying the US is perhaps closer than it’s ever been to legalisation and that "there is a buzz in Washington about the need for action."

According to a report by the Associated Press, part of that buzz is the response to the events of Black Friday. It went on to say that the AGA "has slowly warmed to the push for online gambling" but while it supports the idea of legalising online gambling nationwide, "it hasn’t backed any existing bills and calls its position neutral."
