Founded in California in 2016, the VR entertainment company recieved US$80m in investments from venture capitalists by 2019. With almost 30 locations across the US, Europe and Asia, the only other venue in Europe to date from Sandbox VR is its London venue.

The £1.5m Alsfeld location is being opened by Torsten Schneider, who also operates an escape room, Hologate arcade and laser tag arena in the area. Six different VR experiences will be on offer, such as two zombie games, a futuristic dystopia, a comic-book-style pirate ship adventure and a street fighter game.

Sandbox VR works by coordinating a camera system, vests featuring haptic technology and spatially-tracked armour, such as swords and shields, into one seamless game, reports Mixed News.com.
