The Bank of England has unveiled designs for the UK’s new bank notes.

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the ascension of King Charles III to the throne, new notes featuring the image of the king have been shown off.
It is planned that the new notes will enter circulation by mid-2024.
The Bank of England said that all four of its polymer banknotes, the £5, £10, £20 and £50, will feature the king’s portrait on the front of the note, as well as in the security window.
Notes featuring Queen Elizabeth II will continue to be legal tender and the royal household said that the decision was made to minimise the environmental impact of the change.
The updated notes will mean that cash handling devices will need to be updated to be able to accept the new currency.
The Bank of England says that more than 4.7billion notes featuring Queen Elizabeth II remain in circulation.
