The park is set to open Discovery Bay, a 67,000sq.ft area in June, featuring six new rides. The Victorian-themed attraction follows the development of the 35m high Big Wheel and an adventure golf attraction in 2022.

Discovery Bay marks the third major project at Southport Pleasureland since 2019 when the park’s chief executive, Norman Wallis, pledged to invest money in the site following the grant of a long-term lease, and brings his total investment in the park to £4.7m in the last year, reports Place North West.

Discovery Bay will feature six rides, including two thrill rides and a large family ride, within what the park describes as a “retro-futuristic styled” land.

Guests will also be able to enjoy the outdoor festival venue, which will hold up to 3,000 people.

Wallis told Place North West: “Our theming architects are really bringing the immersion of Discovery Bay to life – the props, the seating areas, the catering.

“The new land we are building will be a major draw to performers and festivals, and we are already in discussions with a number of parties in regards to special events we will be bringing to Southport.”
