The President of Trinidad and Tobago, George Maxwell Richards, has signed legislation which effectively bans slot machines in the Caribbean country, according to press reports emerging from the region.

The Newsday newspaper said that once the legislation comes into force, it will be against the law for gaming houses and private members’ clubs to conduct gambling by way of slot machines.

“The question that remains, however, is whether police will enforce such legislation,” the newspaper said.
