There appears to be a rise in the popularity of tokens and token mechanisms in the industry, says World of Rides’ support manager Andrew Robinson.

The kiddie ride specialist company said that a noticeable increase in usage of tokens belied the general movement in society towards cashless payments.

“Players still enjoy the feeling of inserting a coin and hearing it roll down to start the game,” said Robinson. “During the cost of living crisis, all official surveys have found that the public still much prefer to use either coins or tokens to help them budget their spending.”

He also reports that the company has customers that are still using tokens that it first minted over 50 years ago. Due to the demand, the company has had to double its production and says it may have to increase it even further with the start of the traditional summer holiday season.

Robinson commented: “We have already sold an extra 100,000 tokens and dozens of token coin mechanisms this past week alone, as all operators prepare for the school holiday onslaught.”
