Sega inspired the industry to “dig deep” and raise money for charity Rays of Sunshine earlier this month when it entered a team in a sponsored abseil.

Justin Burke, Dave Barnham, Adam Garrett, Clive Roswell and Lester Travasso completed the challenge to abseil 170ft of the No 1 Olympic Way building in aid of BACTA’s chosen charity, raising £3,500 in the process.

“None of us had done it before,” explained Burke, “and one of the team was scared of heights – which he only announced the day before!”

Rays of Sunshine was set up to make wishes come true for children with serious and life-limiting conditions, aged between three and 18 across the UK. It also helps to buy vitally important equipment for those children and supports the hospitals, hospices and specialist schools that care for them.

“It was a great event, bringing together teams from all different industries,” Burke said. “It’s an awesome charity that we were happy to get involved in.”

He described the support from the amusement industry as “very touching.”

“We had really great support from our contacts in the industry. It was fantastic that people were able to dig deep in these times,” he said.
