Increased interest rates of nine per cent, an increase in food prices and petrol set at NZ$2.06 a litre, teamed with a rise in unemployment, could be the reason the amusement sector in New Zealand is, at present, so quiet.

According to Gary Walker, of operator Coincascade, there is an election due this year, which should see tax cuts made and could ease the pressure on the amount of disposable income available.

With this in mind Time Zone has just introduced a ‘half price’ Thursday promotion for the rest of the year to target new players. Every game is half price for the day and the promotion starts with a $5.00 purchase.

On another note, Walker did report that Coastal Amusements’ Sea Wolf and Heat Wave are both performing well, as is Tekken 6, which the operator is in the process of a New Zealand Championships with. The winner will go to Singapore later this year for the Timezone Oceania Championships.

Walker added: "Big Buck Hunter Safari and the Stacker are still doing very well and Taito’s Battle Gear 4 is still our top driver."
