While John White and BACTA are expressing horror at the treatment of members in Wales, his association had better news from Scotland where the country’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, announced that arcades can reopen on Monday, August 24.
The relief comes with strict adherence to health and safety protocols, said the trade association, confirming at the same time that machines can be switched on in Scottish pubs. That includes pool tables, it emphasised. The situation with jukeboxes "is confused". The authorities had stated earlier in the week that background music should be switched off.
The association hopes to clarify this in the next day or two following more consultations with Scottish officials.
