The future of Scarborough’s West Pier in the UK still hangs in the balance after a third postponement of council consideration of an £11m regeneration plan.

The North Yorkshire Council had been ready to debate the plan yesterday (October 8), following postponements in August and September, but discussions were called off after a legal challenge.
The plans intended to support the town’s fishing and lobster industry and replace many of the buildings and facilities which are currently no longer fit for purpose. It was also intended to include an outdoor events space, car parking, new kiosks and the opening of a seafood restaurant.
Many objections have been raised, however, and the Friends of Scarborough Harbour organisation has protested that the pier should be confined to harbour-related uses.
