The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made an unexpected visit to Barry Island in South Wales and the visit took them to Island Leisure, on the seaside resort’s front.

There they played amusement games and chatted with staff and visitors before moving on to other engagements.

During the tour of the resort, the Duke and Duchess heard how local people had struggled through the lockdown with being unable to visit with their families during the pandemic. They also heard how local businesses in the hospitality and tourism sectors had faced difficulties.

The FEC is famous in the UK as the location called Nessa’s Slots in TV comedy series Gavin and Stacey. After the visit, staff reported that Prince William had confessed that he “needs more practice” at the crane machines.

Last year, 424,000 people visited the popular seaside resort.
