The BA Start Competitive Arcade and Taproom in downtown San Luis Obispo, California recently celebrated its grand opening.

Celebrations for the retro-themed venue were initiated by the presence of a real DeLorean, inspired by the time-travelling car from classic sci-fi movie, Back to the Future.

Featuring a host of arcade classics such as air hockey, board games, ping pong and vintage, token-operated arcade machines, KSBY.com reports that BA Start has already been making some surprisingly international waves.

Owners Rob and Sarah Peterson said: "We have a lot of notable players that have started playing here… one player that's ranked ninth in the world in pole position, and we have another pinball player that's going after the world record. So, I mean, we're cultivating a community here of competitive gamers. I just I want to thank the community for just welcoming us."

Visitors to BA Start will also be able to benefit from its in-house bar and restaurant, serving fast-food favourites such as paninis, quesadillas and nachos, as well as an artisinal selection of beers, ales and more.

Touchingly, the owners of the venue chose to use the opening as a fundraiser for the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, named after and founded by the star of Back to the Future, who himself suffers from the condition.

The event also raised funds for the White Stag Leadership Development Programme, working to help young people learn and develop skills and confidence in themselves.
