UK operator Rank Leisure has been rewarded with a trio of VAT rebates from HM Revenue and Customs.
The bingo and casino operator confirmed that the VAT and Duties Tribunal had upheld its claim for £25.9m it had overpaid between 2002 and 2005 on amusement machines.
As well as this most recent win, Rank also won a claim for £59m for paying too much VAT on interval bingo and £16m overpaid against main stages games.
HMRC is appealing the decision.
With regard to the amusement machine ruling, Rank claimed that HMRC had "contravened the EU’s principle of fiscal neutrality" by levying different rates of VAT on different machines, such as FOBTs and Category B machines.
