The 34,000 AWP machines in Poland are facing a 10 per cent turnover tax to help the Polish Government fund a number of projects in the country, including the building of new stadiums for the 2012 European soccer championships.
The Polish industry is protesting strongly at the proposals, which are set to be introduced on January 1, 2009, claiming that it is impossible to insert 10 per cent extra into a machine on top of, say, a one zloty stake.
They are obviously also protesting that the tax is on what goes into the machine rather than the net proceeds of the cashbox. The government is proposing that the tax will be inclusive, making the one zloty stake actually a fraction over 90 groszy.
The proposals also include a plan for all of the Polish AWP machines to be compulsorily attached to an online system direct to the Ministry of Finance so that their income can be tracked. The effects on the casino industry are reported below.
