Once the doyen of British holidaymakers, Pontins has shown further contraction in its scope with the closure of its locations in Prestatyn, North Wales, and Camber Sands in East Sussex (pictured).

The immediate closures mean that Pontins now has only four of its one-time 30 camps still open.
Founder Fred Pontin developed the company from small beginnings just after the war and then sold it in 1978.
After several changes in ownership the company was about to go into administration when it was bought by Britannia Hotels in 2011.
The Prestatyn camp in particular was very popular; it opened in 1971 and was often fully occupied by 5,000 holidaymakers.
