UK amusement park Blackpool Pleasure Beach has reversed a loss of £3.9m into a profit of almost £1m in the year to April 4, according to newly filed accounts.

The family-owned business, which attracts around six million visitors a year, said that the period had been one of "consolidation" for the business, with turnover dropping to £28.1m from £29.6m in 2009.

The company introduced a new payment method during the year, with people using the park buying wristbands as opposed to paying for individual rides. It said that although attendance for the year was lower than expected, the average spend per head was higher.

A directors’ report accompanying the accounts said: "The directors acknowledge that the introduction of the admission price has impacted on visitor numbers but firmly believe that following the investments to park infrastructure and entertainment the Pleasure Beach guests’ experience has been greatly enhanced."
