Japanese amusement equipment and game centre operator Sega Sammy enjoyed strong sales of pachislot machines during the six months to September 30.

Pachislot

Boosted by the launch of the Pachislot Kaiji 3 title, the company’s pachislot machine business saw the sale of 143,000 units, exceeding sales for the same period in the previous fiscal year.

In its pachinko machine business there were solid performances by Pachinko CR Rookies under the Sammy brand, along with CR Gorenger under the Taiyo Elec brand. However, due to a policy where part of the products were rescheduled for launch in the later half of the fiscal year, overall sales of pachinko machines fell short of results for the same period in the previous year, reaching 54,000 units.

As a result, net sales across both segments amounted to ¥71.3bn ($726m) – an increase of 30.5 per cent on the same period last year – and operating income rose 45.8 per cent to ¥15bn.

Sega Sammy’s amusement machine sales business held up at the same level as the corresponding period in the last financial year at ¥19.9bn. Sales at its 202 amusement centres in Japan dipped five per cent, however.
