Austrian gaming giant Novomatic has signed a bumper deal with Loteria Romana, the state lottery of Romania, that will see it supply 10,000 video lottery terminals to the country.

Under the terms of the deal, the joint revenues, after joint expenses, will be shared equally between the partners. Loteria Roman has been granted a proportionate minimum revenue guarantee to the tune of €75m.

Novomatic was chosen from a pool of five leading international VLT providers and will be providing a jackpot system, maintenance services and spare parts in addition to the machines.

“This agreement with Novomatic is a unique opportunity to put our video lottery activities on a new and fair basis under a long-term perspective in the future,” said Adrian Manolache, CEO of Loteria Romana. “Loteria Romana will not need to contribute any additional investments to this partnership and we cooperate with a very experienced international partner in this sector.”

Novomatic has established a company in Romania to manage the project and the first VLTs will go into operation in December.

Ryszard Presch, chief operating officer of Novomatic and managing director of Austrian Gaming Industries, said: “For our group of companies this agreement is a very important step in the expansion of our market position in the VLT business. This long-term agreement is an endorsement of our competence in this sector and highlights once again our leading role in the international VLT market.”
