Following Chris Cotty's comments in a recent InterGame news story regarding the state of the amusement sector in New Jersey and New York, the following letter to the editor was received:
"I don’t agree with this article. Theoretically, the exact opposite should be true. The local arcade is closer and takes less fuel and time to get to and from. Primarily, the local arcade offers the same games. The shore locations offer more value for the dollar in that a player is usually rewarded with a prize after enjoying the play of the game.
Amusement game operators should not lose sight of the reason they are successful. Awarding desirable prizes frequently is essential to maintaining that edge. If you continue to award desirable prizes consistent with the cost to play the game and a comfortable profit margin, the players will return time and again.
"Players don’t come to shore locations or any amusement game location for that matter, expecting to win a new BMW, but operators should stop trying to compete with Publishers Clearing House and give the public the toys and popular items they have come to expect and appreciate and the amusement industry will live on in New Jersey."
