Namco Bandai reports that worldwide amusement machine sales rose from 12,400 units in the first six months of fiscal 2010 to 14,600 units in the first six months of fiscal 2011, ending September.
Sales during the period included video games and prize merchandisers, among other equipment types.
Most of the sales occurred in Japan, with the first half of the fiscal year selling 4,100 arcade video games into the Japanese market, along with 1,600 electromechanical novelty games, 800 "medal" games and 5,900 "other" games.
In the US and Europe, total sales of all Namco coin-op games for the period came to 2,200 units, representing a 10 per cent increase over sales in those same regions during the first half of fiscal 2010, which ran from April 2009 to September 2009.
On the operations side, Namco reduced its location footprint from 255 Japanese arcades to 240 venues and the company’s US route consolidated from 938 locations to 849 locations.
