Scientific Games’ UK gaming business was impacted by “difficult economic conditions” but there were encouraging signs, the company said.

The US-based company announced its results for the first quarter of the year, admitting that its UK gaming business “faced challenging year-over-year comparisons.”

During the first three months of the year, the company said its UK business was hit by both difficult economic conditions and inclement weather that reduced player activity, along with lower product sales.

It was “encouraging to note,” however, that the company’s gross win per terminal per day performance improved in each consecutive month in the first quarter.

Scientific Games predicted a positive response from players as it continues to roll out its new Infinity2 gaming terminals to Gala Coral. It also saw an increase in revenue year-over-year from its collective UK LBO customers and interactive business.

The sale of its pub gaming terminals business, Games Media, to the Astra Group, which was announced in March, will allow the company to focus its resources on “more lucrative businesses,” it said.
