Although face masks are going to become essential in UK supermarkets and shops from next Friday, they are not compulsory in English FECs and adult gaming centres, the ministry that controls the industry has confirmed to trade association BACTA.

Masks

The same applies to bingo clubs, it is reported, but the association says that the industry has been asked to recommend the use of masks to customers.

England has its own controls in place and the relevant parliaments in Scotland and Wales operate on somewhat different rules.

In Scotland the use of masks applies to retail, but there is no specific mention of arcades. Scotland is permitting gambling machines back into operation in bookmakers shops from July 23.

In Wales, the industry is lamenting the lack of guidance from the Welsh parliament, the Senedd Cymru. The industry continues to press for a reopening date for arcades and family entertainment centres.
