Lord McIntosh of Haringey, the Labour minister who was responsible for gaming for part of the last administration, has died aged 77.

Lord McIntosh, who had a long and distinguished career in politics, was in 2003 appointed Minister for Heritage and the Media under Tessa Jowell, which at the time included a role governing the emerging new gambling laws for the UK. He addressed several BACTA conferences and one InterGame conference on the new Gambling Act.

He subsequently became president of the gambling charity Gamcare. He was, among other political achievements, a deputy government chief whip before entering the House of Lords in 1982.
