Bacta members were shocked last night to hear that chief executive John White is to leave the UK trade association at the end of this year.

A short statement from the association, signed by president John Bollom, said that White would remain available to the organisation as a consultant until the end of March next year.

“The departure of John comes as Bacta continues with its restructure following approval by the members of a new governance structure and my election as president in the summer.

"I and your new board will be working with the remaining members of the Bacta team to ensure that there is no reduction in the level of service Bacta provides to its members. We will not be searching for a new chief executive.

“John has given Bacta over 20 years of loyal service in two stints,1988-2000 and 2014-present.  Along the way he has chalked up some notable victories for our sector.

"I and the board and, I am sure, all members, will want to thank John for all he has done for us and to wish him well for the future.”
