Tony Abbott’s sweeping victory in the Australian General Election on Sunday is good news for the amusement and gaming industry, according to business leaders in the country.

Tony Abbott

Abbott led his coalition Liberal-National group to a landslide victory in the election to the Australian lower house, displacing the Labor party. Abbott, best known in the international press for his fitness regime, led by enthusiasm for cycling, is seen as a conservative pro-business incomer.

Malcolm Steinberg, chairman of Leisure and Allied Industries, the big amusement machine operating and manufacturing company, said: “The Abbott LNP win is a plus for the industry and business as a whole. Tony Abbott is seen as a moderate conservative who believes that small business drives the economy.

“The previous Labor party were planning to impose severe restrictions on poker machines but the new government has stated that they will allow the industry to self regulate when it comes to problem gamblers.

“The LNP are committed to reducing taxation and regulations on businesses. The stock market made strong gains, demonstrating its approval of the change.”
