Esports in India is a growing force, with the Indian government deciding to "formally recognise the discipline for inclusion in multi-sports events."

Reporting on the decision Inside the Games notes that this is timed with esports also becoming an official medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Lokesh Suji, director of the Indian Ministry of Youth Affairs and vice-president of the Asian Esports Federation said: “From now onwards, we will have to build the proper infrastructure, training facilities and coaching for our young esports athletes. It’ll only be a short time until we see esports being placed in the same league as cricket, football, basketball, etc. and having similar fan power, scale and craze."
This claim seems to be be true, with esports organisations such as Team Insane Esports making waves in the Indian esports scene.
The founder of Team Insane Esports, David Dey, told Outlook India: "No longer is it just a niche interest for hardcore gamers Instead, it is now becoming increasingly mainstream, with fans all over the world tuning in to watch the best players and teams compete."
Team Insane Esports are also notable as finalists at the Red Bull M.E.O. Season 4 India.
