Trade association IAAPA is urging the US Congress to consider key issues as the American industry gets back to work after the Covid-19 pandemic.

It has sent a letter on behalf of its American members in which it points out that the pandemic will cause $23bn in economic loss to the attractions industry with over 50 per cent of companies having to make staff adjustments and many not reopening at all this year. More than 235,000 jobs have been lost in the US.
“It has been devastating for our industry, particularly for seasonal businesses,” said Hal McEvoy, CEO of the association. “These businesses rely on making enough revenue during the few short summer months that they are open to maintain employment year-round. In addition, year-round businesses that experience peak attendance from spring break through the summer months have been substantially hurt by the pandemic.”
It asks Congress to look at small business administration loans; liability protection; tax credits; a federal backstop for pandemic risk insurance; animal care financial assistance and support for severely impacted businesses.
