Next week’s EAG in London will provide a platform for the UK’s main safer gambling organisations, says Robb Mabbett, engagement director at Better Change.

Mabbett (left in picture) was appointed in his new role last May after over a decade of experience in the gambling industry and will take full advantage of the facility of EAG’s Safer Gambling Hub.

He said this week that most of the safer gambling organisations will be there to talk to operators about the services on offer to them.

“It is a two-way street and those participating in the Hub will seek to hear about the challenges, especially in the light of changing legislation.

"We all want a sustainable industry and I would like to see the industry get on the front foot and work with safer gambling organisations and improve the industry’s reputation.”

Mabbett said that the introduction of a statutory levy presented concerns for him in that it might see the loss of the current collaboration with the industry.

“Some areas of the industry may feel aggrieved at the level (0.4 per cent), especially as some organisations that will benefit refuse to work with the industry.”

This, said Mabbett, was "madness. Nobody should be excluded from the collective effort to reduce gambling harm.”

He was concerned that the levy might simply become another tax on gambling and Mabbett urged the industry to seek background on how the money is being spent.
