The Global Draw, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Scientific Games, has resigned from BACTA, the trade association for the pay-to-play leisure industry in the UK.
The Global Draw raised concerns about the validity of BACTA’s stance on B2/B3 machines in licensed betting offices with officials as early as November 2007 and received assurance that the association’s approach would in the future follow the principle of trying to work alongside the retail betting industry for the benefit of the gaming industry as a whole.
The Global Draw believes that there are a number of areas where BACTA’s approach has deviated from this principle.
"This is not a decision that we have taken lightly," said Neil Moir, The Global Draw’s director of international business development. "We at The Global Draw share the view of others in the industry and of other trade bodies that deregulation is a good thing and we respect BACTA’s right to protect its members.
"We also fully support an early positive review of stakes and prizes across all machine types. However, we cannot remain part of an association that aims to further the cause of one section of its membership at the expense of another."
