The Gauselmann Group’s decision to invest in the UK Category C market was the “next logical step” for the German company.

As previously reported by InterGame, Gauselmann has become a minority shareholder in Sceptre Leisure, Britain’s largest independent AWP operator. The move follows the purchase of a controlling interest in Blueprint Gaming in 2008 and the €100m acquisition of the Praesepe Group last year.
Now, with over 170 entertainment centres and bingo clubs in the UK, the group has a significant presence in the country’s adult gaming centre and bingo market.
“The next logical step has been to invest in the Category C market – the traditional and very popular pub market,” said Jürgen Stühmeyer, member of the board for sales at the Gauselmann Group. “Sceptre Leisure plays a major role in this British pub market sector which remains a very important segment for AWPs. We are very proud to be a part of Sceptre Leisure and very excited about future prospects.”
Gauselmann previously supplied Sceptre Leisure with its Genie gaming machine, developed specifically for the UK market. Unveiled the machine at this year’s ICE Totally Gaming show in London, Gauselmann received an order for 1,000 units from Sceptre at the event. The first of these were delivered in April and are now in operation, while the rest are to follow shortly.
Ken Turner, managing director of Sceptre Leisure, welcomed Gauselmann’s investment, stating that the synergies of the deal “made clear sense” to both parties.
“The Gauselmann Group has the experience, innovative prowess and naturally the financial strength to develop just what we need,” he said. “Furthermore, the ‘made in Germany’ quality brings a new breath of life into the product offering in the market place. Our communication will now be even closer, thus creating an even greater chance of success for us.
“We are extremely happy and proud to welcome the Gauselmann Group. Players in the UK will benefit in pubs and clubs from this deal with yet better products available from the Gauselmann Group.”
