The Veltmeijer Group has opened a new amusement arcade this week in Kerkrade, Netherlands.

Following a soft opening on August 30, Gamestate, which is located within the town’s LeisureDome complex that also offers bowling and other attractions, was officially opened on September 12.
The 500sq.m location features a variety of games, including a host of ticket redemption pieces. Dutch distributor Game Castle International, systems specialist Embed International, Belgium’s Elaut and game manufacturer Namco were among the companies chosen to supply equipment to the new venue.
Roger Tubée, director of Alrecrea International, which is part of the group, told InterGame that since the soft opening at the end of last month, the arcade has been “very well received” by local customers “wanting to see what is new.”
“Of course what is new,” he continued, “is ticket redemption. In that part of the Netherlands there are no other arcades with the redemption concept.”
Customers were also very receptive to Embed’s debit card system, which marks a change from traditional coin and note acceptors within the Dutch amusement market.
“Yesterday we had the grand opening of the LeisureDome building,” Tubée said. “We had a very good response from people in the business in the Netherlands and Belgium, who described the location as a new benchmark for amusement locations in the Netherlands and Belgium.”
A full report on the new Gamestate location will be included in the October issue of InterGame.
