Scarborough, UK’s Alpamare water park is to close for the winter because of high energy costs, the operator said this week.

A management statement said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the temporary closure of Alpamare. We hope to reopen in spring 2024.

"While we have a fantastic park and lots of brilliant customers, we are unable to continue trading through the winter due to the ongoing high costs associated with the business, including the very high cost of energy needed to heat our pools.

"A brief closure will enable us to carry out essential maintenance and improve our energy efficiency.”

The £14m park opened in the resort’s North Bay in 2016 and an accompanying spa in 2019. It has four water slides, an indoor wave pool and two outdoor pools.
