There is unlikely to be any change in the French Government's stance against low-stake, low-prize gaming machines (AWPs) in France, according to one of the country's leading casino groups.

France has the largest casino industry in Europe with 195 locations, yet, along with Portugal, is the only country without some form of limited gaming by machines in the street market.

Commenting on the situation, Sébastien Tranchant, general manager at Groupe Tranchant, which has 21 casinos, said: "The authorities cannot control the street market as well as they can control casinos and we see no need for AWPs.

“Of course we would oppose their introduction - all French casino operators would. We are one of the highest slot machine income markets in the world - and one of the highest taxed."
