A disastrous fire completely destroyed the buildings on the pier at the Somerset, UK, seaside resort of Weston-super-Mare yesterday.
Among those buildings was an amusement arcade that had recently received an injection of new equipment from London-based distributor UDC.
In fact, the company’s sales director, Michael Green, was on his way to meet a representative of new pier owner Grand Pier Weston as part of UDC’s after-sales service when the news of the fire broke.
"We have supplied many games to the company as part of their refurbishment programme and it is most upsetting to hear this shocking news," UDC chief Derek Horwood told InterGame.
"Michael had been instrumental in advising the new owners about equipment and suggesting where to place games in the arcade for optimum effect. He had built up a strong rapport with them in a short space of time and he will be devastated by this tragic news."
No one was injured in the blaze, which is believed to have started in the restaurant in the early hours of Monday morning.
